Advisory boards in general are bodies that give – as the name goes – advice to the organisations in question. They are by character informal, flexible and therefore influential, yet less authoritative and no way decisive. Sound too good to be true, but that’s what they are. One day I remembered something weird from my childhood. When I was a little girl, I had only one dream: to travel. I dreamed about countries far away, about exciting adventures, different cultures. I dreamed that I could speak exotic languages and that I was brave enough to leave and experience everything that world has to offer. That was actually quite a weird dream, because my family didn´t travel almost at all. Neither did my friends or relatives. But my mother, she had two close friends, who went around the world and sent us postcards from exciting places. And so my dream woke up.
More than twenty years later I am here, soon going to Kazakhstan this time. In the end of year 2016, when I came back from Asia after spending there two months on holiday, I was almost desperate. All the sectors have different gear: warehouses of the different teams in metal, wood, cleaning, painting, guarding or car repairing take a new pile of things, sometimes very big things. This is our secret language meaning: your work of many months has been paid off by sending IN an application in the Erasmus+ Programme. More uncoding: almost a hundred vocational secondary institutions in Finland have made their plans for international mobility periods in Europe for the next one or two years to come and have sent a Key Action 1 (KA1) Learning Mobility of Individuals application to the Brussels database. Thinking outside the box, or building out of the box? In the middle of the Finnish VET reform, it is very comforting and refreshing to think about the walls and the rooms and the set-up of the learning and teaching premises. The “classroom” has come far from the times of the early 1900’s and somehow got back to where it belongs: the workplace. Mind you, I am not saying, we take the class to the workplace, but we rebuild the workplace to TAKK premises. There is an essential difference there. Continue reading →
